Neshaminy Coach Facing Harassment Charge For Head Butt

Coach Jerry Devine will face a citation for harassment in connection with the Jan. 5 altercation, authorities announced Wednesday.

Neshaminy High School’s varsity basketball coach has been charged with a summary harassment offense for knocking a referee to the ground during a game earlier this month, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Bucks County District Attorney, after reviewing the results of an investigation by Middletown Township Police, has recommended Jerry Devine receive a citation for a summary harassment offense. Harassment is punishable by a jail sentence of up to 90 days and a fine not to exceed $300.

Devine has been suspended as basketball coach following the Jan. 5 altercation during a Neshaminy game versus Pennsbury.

During the incident, which was captured on a video that went viral, Devine approaches the referee and then appears to head butt him, knocking him down to the ground.

School officials this week announced Devine will keep his teaching job. Devine had been on administrative leave since the incident, which prompted his indefinite suspension as head coach. He remains suspended as the coach.

Devine has been a special education teacher at Neshaminy High School for 18 years, his bio says. He has coached the school’s basketball team for 10 years. He previously taught in Bristol Borough and Philadelphia.
