  • The first students entering the building for the first day of classes
  • The first school bus drop-off with students
  • The first all-school gathering (students started their day in the gymnasium before making their way to classrooms with their teachers)
  • The first lost and found item (a Lilo and Stitch lunch box found on a bus)
  • The first meal (breakfast provided in the cafeteria)
  • The first morning announcements (live video)
  • The first specials (art, gym, music, library)

The new school features state-of-the-art energy-efficient HVAC, electrical and lighting systems, and a modern design with grade-level "pods" and common areas that encourage collaboration and group activities.

The building was designed by the Spiezle architectural design firm, which was also responsible for the design of Tawanka Elementary School, completed in 2016.

The school sits adjacent to, but separate from Maple Point Middle School.

The project has been discussed and planned for several years as part of a plan to fill a geographical gap in the northern part of the district.
