Community Corner

Out of the Darkness Fundraiser

The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a fundraising walk like no other. It's a 16-18 mile journey through the night, from dusk until dawn, where the community of walkers will help to break the silence and bring the issues of depression and suicide into the light.

The Overnight is organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.

By walking in the Out of the Darkness Overnight I will be helping to support the following:

Research to improve the understanding of factors that contribute to suicide;
Suicide prevention of college campuses through the dissemination of an educational film;
International Survivors of Suicide Day conferences;
Development of national centers that will evaluate the effectiveness of suicide prevention treatments;
Creation of new survivor support groups;
Local suicide prevention programs.

The fundraiser is being held to help me reach my goal of 1,000 dollars. All of the money raised will go directly towards all that is listed above and more. Suicide happens way too often and with your help we can raise awareness and give hope to those who suffer.

There will be a 50/50, raffle baskets, and a door prize.

If you are interested in putting together a raffle basket, please send me a private message and I can give you some ideas and information.
