Police said that the dozen or more flashing yellow lights on a school bus do not mean for drivers to speed up. Police said drivers must also stop for school buses in the opposite lanes of travel where there is no physical barrier.
"Giving a wide berth to a stopped bus by driving down the shoulder is still not okay," police said. "Driving around a stopped bus and into oncoming traffic is also not okay. Driving around a stopped bus on their door side while discharging students is reckless and endangers the lives of children."
Police said they hope to see these violations drop drastically in the new year.
