Pennsbury High Students Stage ICE Protest

Students held a 20-minute assembly on Friday to protest ICE activity throughout the country.

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — Pennsbury High School students protested ICE activity in the United States on Friday as students assembled in the East auditorium and heard from four student speakers during the 20-minute event, school officials said.

"The protest was peaceful and orderly, and students returned promptly to class afterward," school officials said in an email Friday to Pennsbury High School families.

Schools Superintendent Thomas A. Smith and High School Campus Principal Reggie Meadows said they assessed the level of security on campus (including security drones), and then determined that interested students could walk the path in between class periods.

School officials said instruction continued during the protest for students who chose not to participate. The remainder of the school day proceeded as scheduled.

"We would like to take a moment to recognize our students," school officials said. "They conducted themselves with maturity and integrity. Students on both sides of the issue were firm in their beliefs while remaining respectful throughout the event. We are proud of the thoughtful and responsible manner in which our young adults represented Pennsbury High School."
