Que for the Troops Fundraiser, Family Festival Set for June 5-6

The addition of a mechanical bull and a chicken wing eating contest will help to make the sixth annual Que for the Troops fundraiser and barbeque competition the best yet, according to organizer Jeffry Dence, a Falls Township Supervisor. The event raises money for Liberty USO, a nonprofit organization which serves the needs of active duty, National Guard and reserve military personnel and their families throughout Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

“This is going to be our biggest event ever,” Dence said. “It’s going to be a great event.”

Fifty teams will compete in the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned event, which is set for June 5 at Falls Township Community Park. BBQ competitors from all over the country duke it out in chicken, pork, pork ribs and brisket categories. Up for grabs is more than $8,000 in prize money.

Contenders can also vie for the optional Anything Butt and dessert competitions, which will be judged the evening of June 5.

In addition to BBQ, participants can enjoy a beer garden on June 5 beginning at 4 p.m., as well as a 5K and 1-mile family run at 5 p.m. to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

A cruise night car show and live music begin at 7 p.m. and the chicken wing eating contest follows. Contestants will be limited to 20 for the chicken wing eating contest.

Kids can enjoy free bounce house fun, face painting, balloon animals and other fun activities.

Festivities continue on June 6 with the BBQ awards ceremony, a car show, vendors and crafters, kids’ activities, military vehicles, police demonstrations and a fireworks finale.
