LEVITTOWN, PA —National "Rosie the Riveter Day" had double meaning last Thursday.

While March 21 marked National Rosie the Riveter Day, it also was the 98th birthday of Mae Krier, who was a "Rosie" back in the day in Seattle before settling in Levittown.

Krier worked at Boeing Aircraft during World War II, producing B-17s and B-29s for the war effort, Bucks County officials said.

For the past 40 years, Krier has advocated for formal recognition of the millions of “Rosies” like her who proved “We Can Do It!,” officials said.

Krier was honored this past week with the Bucks County Women in History Month Award, as well as a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners proclaiming "Rosie the Riveter Day" in Bucks County.

State Sen. Steve Santarsiero said he met Krier at the function.

"Please join me in wishing Ms. Krier a happy birthday and applauding her service to her country and continued advocacy," the senator said.

Three years ago, Bensalem Republicans showed a picture of Krier with Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo at the Bensalem Pharmacy in the Bensalem Plaza Shopping Center.

At 17, Krier left home to join the war effort.

In 2021, Krier joined another effort, donning her Rosie bandana to begin making masks and encouraging people to get vaccinations as soon as they are available, Bensalem Republicans said in a Facebook post at that time.

Using a sewing machine in her home, Krier went about cutting, creasing, and stitching hundreds of masks using red and white polka dot cloth symbolic of "Rosie the Riveter," Bensalem Republicans said.
