Three Arches Cleanup Day Set for April 25

Falls Township is seeking volunteers for cleanup day at the Three Arches historical site.

Come and celebrate Falls Township’s living history during the Three Arches cleanup day on April 25. Volunteers are needed to help plant new flowers and shrubbery and beautify the grounds of the more than 300-year-old historic home.

Held in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department and the Shade Tree Commission, the cleanup will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Three Arches, which is located at 335 Trenton Road.

Beautification efforts will go a long way in sprucing up the 17th century homestead, which dates back to 1684 when the first owner of record was granted the land from William Penn’s Commissioners.

The historical importance of the property centers on owners John and Mary Sotcher, who built the first stone section around 1712. The Sotchers were trusted friends of William Penn and worked as steward and housekeeper for him at Penn’s estate in Pennsbury in the early 1700s. Penn attended the Sotcher marriage in 1701 at the Falls Meeting. Penn signed the marriage certificate, as well as Phineas Pemberton and James Logan and other notable Bucks County figures.

Falls Township has owned the property since 1971 and has taken pride in preserving and maintaining the historic residence. In 1977, the Three Arches building was registered on the Pennsylvania Inventory of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its significant history and architectural merit of structure.
