Trash Collection Changes In Middletown Township

Middletown Township has signed a five-year contract with Waste Management. The contract went into effect on Monday.

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, PA —The township has begun a new five-year garbage services contract with Waste Management that went into effect on Monday.

The change means once-a-week automated pickup where trash, recycling, and yard waste will be collected on the same day.

Township officials said the changes are aimed at improving efficiency and service.

Other changes include:

  • Wheeled Carts: Every household will receive two new 96-gallon wheeled carts: one for trash and one for recycling. The carts are designed for easy automated collection, keeping odors contained and preventing pests. Prefer a smaller cart? You can request a 65-gallon cart after the first quarter in April.
  • Collection Day: Most residents will keep one of their current trash days. However, updated collection schedules will be announced later this fall and mailed to all residents.
  • Old Trash/Recycling Cans: Old bins can be repurposed for yard waste or disposed of by labeling them as bulk for collection day. Additionally, old cans can be placed inside the new trash cart for pickup. The blue "Middletown Township" recycling bins distributed last year can still be used at the curb in place of the larger wheeled cart.

Recycling & Yard Waste

  • Recycling: This will be picked up alongside trash every week for increased convenience and simplicity.
  • Yard Waste: No changes, other than your collection day! Continue following the current procedures for yard waste pickup on your regular collection day. Yard Waste will still be collected April through January.

Special Features

  • Bulk Pickup: Scheduled for the third week of every month on your regular collection day. Households are permitted up to two bulk items per pickup. If you need additional pickups, you can schedule an On-Demand Pickup via the "My WM" app, with residents paying Waste Management directly.
  • Townhome Neighborhoods: In Tareyton, Hollybrooke, Villas of Middletown, and Windybush, manual collection will continue for all waste services.

Getting Started

  • Cart Delivery: Your new carts will arrive in December. Do not use them until the new collection schedule begins on January 6th. Make sure to place the carts with the wheels facing your home and leave at least three feet of space from cars or other obstacles to ensure easy pickup.
  • The "My WM" App: Stay updated with pickup schedules, manage your account, and schedule bulk pickups through the app for added convenience.
  • Damaged Carts? Waste Management will repair or replace them at no charge upon request.
  • Extra Trash or a Second Cart? You can opt for an additional cart at a cost of $12/month per cart through Waste Management. One trash and one recycling cart are included in the base service.

Holiday Schedule

  • Holiday Delays: When holidays occur, collections will be delayed by one day during that service week. For example, if the holiday falls on Monday, all pickups will be delayed by a day for that week.
