U.S. 1 Road Work Details Available At Open House
The open house will address the second phase of work on U.S. 1, spanning from Rockhill Drive to the Business U.S. 1 interchange.

MIDDLETOWN, PA — With work set to begin next week on a four-year, $97 million road-widening and improvement project on U.S. 1, PennDOT officials have scheduled an open house to discuss details of the next phase of work on the busy highway.
Work starting next week is part of a bigger plan to upgrade U.S. 1. The work to be discussed at the open house — on Nov. 7 at the Middletown Township Municipal Building — will be on a 1.5-mile stretch of highway from just south of the Rockhill Drive interchange to just north of the Business U.S. 1 (Penndel) interchange in Bensalem and Middletown townships.
That work is expected to begin in 2021. The open house is set for 6 p.m. and the municipal building is located at 3 Municipal Way, Langhorne.

The purpose of the open house s to give the public progress plans and a status update on the project. There will be a display of plans and PennDOT's design team will be on hand to discuss them and answer questions.
Under the plan, PennDot will build a third travel lane in each direction on U.S. 1, build a sound barrier and retaining walls, make several roadway and safety improvements at the Penndel and Neshaminy interchanges, add sidewalks at the Rockhill Drive intersection and install new signs, traffic signals and more.

The project will be paid for with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent from the state of Pennsylvania.
The work beginning next week in Bensalem will start Monday, according to Gov. Tom Wolf's office. It will be done between Old Lincoln Highway and just south of the Neshaminy interchange in Bensalem. In all, the U.S. 1 project will stretch along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Rt. 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown and Langhorne.
The first work you're likely to see starting next week will be the relocation of utilities and minor upgrades and improvements needed to keep traffic moving during the main construction stage, which is slated to start in the spring.
