Uptown String Band Ready For Mummers Parade

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — There's always one thing that you can count on every New Year's Day.

The Langhorne-based Uptown String Band will perform in the annual Mummers Parade in Philadelphia.

Bucks County's only Mummers organization has been a staple, performing in the parade after forming as a non-profit performing arts organization in 1937.

The string band finished fourth among 14 string bands, while its captain took second place.

Last year's performance was called "Boardwalk FantaSea." Set in Coney Island, the Uptown String Band said the performance was filled with nostalgia, summer fun, and classic Americana vibes.

This year's theme will be "From Script to Screen" with the Uptown String Band expected to be the fifth string band to perform in the parade.

Calling themselves "The Pride of Bucks County," the Langhorne-based annual participant in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade is a fully volunteer organization with nearly 200 members and a history dating back to 1937.
