Wawa Hoagie Battle Ends In Tie As Fairless Hills Store Opens

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA —The tie goes to the hoagie builder.

As the new Wawa convenience store opened at 530 Lincoln Hwy. Wednesday morning, the Falls Township Fire Company and Falls Township Police Department battled it out —all for a good cause.

Wawa held the first of back-to-back grand openings of two new convenience stores in Bucks County this week with the first on Wednesday in Fairless Hills. The second is in Doylestown Thursday.

With every opening, Wawa has local first responders competing to see who can build the most hoagies in three minutes in the franchise's "Hoagies for Heroes" competition.

The winner receives $1,000 to each department’s charity of choice. In this case, there were two winners.

"We tied the cops in the 'Hoagies for Heroes' competition, but were able to donate $1,000 to the ERA food pantry that we also donate food to during our Christmas Santa run," the fire company said.

At the grand opening, Falls Township Supervisor Erin Mullen joined Falls Township Police Department and volunteers from Falls Township Fire Company #1 for the festivities.

Falls Township also opened the first drive-through Wawa in the state in the Morrisville section on West Trenton Avenue several years ago.

Wawa plans to open up to 76 new stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida in 2023.

The grand opening of the new Bucks County stores will mark the 12th and 13th stores to open among the chain’s six-state operating area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida. and Washington, D.C.
