Health & Fitness

Adding years to your life for the love of your life...

Wait until you read this: seriously just read it...
Its amazing: Its inspiring:
In fact: Of all our many many wonderful success stories this is the one that is truly the most inspiring... because of the wellness, the health that has transpired... the years this man has added to his life.... and it all started in support of his wife... (whose story will be next and is equally as amazing... ) Couples who get fit together stay together for longer.. haha! Good thing they dig each other already! ;-)

Pete and his wife Nancy have demonstrated a new and total commitment to a whole food and fitness lifestyle.  It is amazing and impressive and he earned every bit of it through commitment and being open to learning and adopting habits and techniques shared with him by the corefit staff.
One of the things we impress upon our members at Corefit is that weight loss is the byproduct of choosing wellness.... choosing whole foods... real foods.. Man, we love what we do... we love that Pete and Nancy come to class together, plan their meals together and have become healthier together...and here is Pete's story to help you understand why..

Be Better Tomorrow!Start Today!

I would like to just start with the numbers.
I have been with Lose To Win for 6 ½ months.
In this time the following has happened.
Lost 70lbs!
Went from a tight 38” pant to a loose 34”pant.
Went from XXL shirts to L/M (or as I like to say European XL!)
Am no longer bald! (Well, still working on that)

This is the most important, the science stuff!
My fasting blood sugar was 128(almost diabetes) and is now 99
My Cholesterol went down (Good up, bad down, total down)
My BMI was 39.53 and is now 28.89
I had elevated Liver Enzymes, which are now in the normal range.

My Story
I came to CoreFit because my wife wanted a partner to go with her (although she was going to do it anyway with or without me!) I had just had a disastrous physical. I was the heaviest I ever had been, my blood was out of whack and was told that if I didn’t do something I would be on diabetes medication.  Simply put I had quit everything. I no longer exercised, cared what I ate, or paid attention to anything.  I was now in an XXL (maybe they are cutting them smaller). My pants were tight (I will do something later, for now I’’ just get ONE pair in the bigger size) I don’t feel like weighing myself anymore (I’ve always been in the same range). Don’t like photos. But the biggest lie was, I’m a healthy fat guy. I was very active. I rode a 100k bike ride at 230lbs. I did P90X , I was a skier, I went kayaking, water skiing. Was I as good as I used to be, no, but I was doing it.  I was always ready to start the next phase. There was always a better time. Next week, next month, next year.  I even had started My Fitness Pal. The sad thing was that when I actually started using it as part of LTW I was 20lbs heavier!

The first workout was hard, I was sore but in two weeks I lost 14lbs! But, as I said I had done this before, however NEVER with a food coach. To me the exercise is great; I love the workouts, but the biggest aha was that carbs and sugar are the issue and are hidden in everything. Fat is more of a friend than you think. I began reading labels and was appalled at the carb numbers in the things I ate. Success breeds success! Each week sticking to the plan the numbers went down, I wasn’t as sore. I know that I had quick success but want to let everyone know that it is possible. Being mindful about what you eat is the key.  When I realized that there are carbs in Skim Milk and not cream, bells when off.  This journey was not a solo one, it takes a team to make it work.

The LTW group, and the Trainers are an amazing supportive group of all levels.  You can be you in the LTW room. The trainers will push you but also modify if you need.  The veterans help the newbies, and show the future. The trainers are there to push or to help you modify.  You compete only with yourself and every day do more than the day before. My secret weapon is my partner.

Nancy was the reason I did it and the reason I stay with it. Her journey has been incredible too. I am not going to say the training was easy for me but it was way harder for her. She is the little engine that could! She keeps chugging along and things are happening. Having her with me has been amazing for us. We keep each other on the path and cooking is better with two! Her success is very motivational to me and I am happy for her. If I had to point out one key element to my success it is having her with me. There were many days I didn’t want to go and she said she was going with or without me. I never want to be without her!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the CoreFit team.  Joymarie, Liz, Beth, Steph, Nick and now Yu-Jin. Joymarie has been a rock with the MFP and the training; Liz has created the most nurturing studio I will ever find, and yet pushes my limits, and gets all the cool gear! Beth and Steph make me stretch and flex like I never thought possible. Nick makes me never sit back (…you know you could do it like this to make it harder) Yu-Jin is making me move slower but work harder (still working on that one). It is just an empty shell without the people. The people make it magic!

So, a note to all the newbies, and a note to my future self.  Use your tools (MFP, the scales, and the trainers). The cliché’s are all true; “take it one day at a time,” “stick to the plan”, “Just Do It!”(Thank you Nike), “the longest journey begins with one step”, etc. You will find this the easiest, hardest thing you will ever do. In the end it is all very simple. Be mindful, read the labels, put your food into your diary, challenge yourself. This is a very sustainable lifestyle; not a diet, not a phase! You are not who you were and are worth who you are! Keep moving forward and don’t let bumps (or Quarter Pounders!) in the road stop you. You didn’t become what you are overnight, and that goes both ways. Tell yourself to be better tomorrow and start today!

Thank you Pete and Thank you Nancy... we love having you a part of our Corefit Family... you inspire us.. you help us love what we do...
