UPPER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, PA — An e-bike and a dirt bike turned turned off their headlights and fled when police tried to pull them over in Upper Providence Township late Friday night, according to authorities.
Both bikes were riding on Route 113, near Paperbirch Driver, without license plates or rear lights, police said.
Police spotted the e-bike later at the Wawa on Route 29, but the man again fled from police.
The e-bike had a "#15" on the number panel, while the driver had a white sweatshirt, and white helmet, police said.
"If you recognize the description, or if you are a parent or guardian who suspects your child may be involved, we urge you to speak with them and discourage this dangerous behavior," police shared in a statement. "Our primary concern is the safety of everyone in our community. Reckless actions like these not only violate the law but also put lives at risk, potentially resulting in tragic consequences we all hope to avoid."
Illegally operated e-bikes have been a scourge in the Upper Providence area and around Montgomery County for months. Incidents of speeding bikes using trails designated for pedestrians have been reported, as well as operating unsafely on the roads. Fines were recent raised for violators in the county.
