A 23-year-old Trappe man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his father, authorities said Friday.
Justin Wilson is accused in the Feb. 1 death of his father, 61-year-old Kevin Wilson.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney's office, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a home on Dewees Place in Trappe at 12:19 a.m. after Justin Wilson called 911 and reported that his father had shot himself.
Troopers who arrived on the scene found Kevin Wilson lying on the bed in his bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head. Investigators also noted signs of a struggle. Authorities said Justin Wilson had blood on each of his cheeks and on multiple areas of his hoodie sweatshirt, shorts, socks and sneakers.
Investigators said an autopsy found evidence that was inconsistent with a self-inflicted wound, including wound characteristics, the placement and trajectory of the bullet wound, and a lack of blood on the victim’s hands.
The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Authorities said Justin Wilson gave "evolving and conflicting" accounts of what happened that night.
Investigators also found that the firearm used in the shooting belonged to Justin Wilson and had been purchased Jan. 10, less than a month before his father’s death.
Justin Wilson is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, tampering with evidence, false reports to law enforcement, possessing an instrument of crime and related charges. He is awaiting arraignment.
Wilson was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
