LIMERICK TOWNSHIP, PA — Emergency warning sirens will sound off around parts of Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties on Monday afternoon, but there is no cause for concern.
It's the semi-annual testing of Limerick Generating Station's alarm klaxons.
The full volume test will have sirens go off for about three minutes in a 10-mile radius surrounding the plant, starting at 2 p.m.
Sirens will be tested again on Tuesday "at various intervals throughout the day," the Limerick Fire Department said.
The sirens are part of a planned exercise held twice a year, and there is no cause for concern. Another round of full siren testing is held in December, while briefer "growl" tests are held monthly.
Should there be an actual emergency, the sirens are not meant to signal panic or evacuation, but rather a notice to pay attention to local announcements.
