LIMERICK, PA — Unscheduled testing of the emergency warning sirens will take place in the 10-mile radius around Limerick Generating Station on Wednesday, authorities said.

It is not yet clear why the testing was not scheduled or why it is taking place on Wednesday, just weeks after the semi-annual testing of the sirens earlier this month.

"There is no emergency or cause for concern," the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety said.

The facility's owners, Constellation, have not provided a public statement on the testing.

The warning system is meant to notify nearby residents of a potential emergency.

If the sirens sound during an actual emergency, residents should tune in to their local emergency alert broadcast television or radio station for more information.
