Historic World War II Plane Crashes In Eastern PA

LIMERICK TOWNSHIP, PA — A historic plane from World War II crashed in Montgomery County Wednesday night, injuring one.

The pilot, the sole occupant, suffered injuries in the crash that occurred at Heritage Field in Limerick Township. The plane had taken off in Bucks County.

The plane was identified by the Aviation Safety Network as a North American AT-6D Harvard III. It was used in the 1940s to train pilots for combat.

The fixed single wing engine took off from Quakertown-Upper Bucks Airport earlier in the evening before running into trouble as it was landing at Heritage Field.

The plane was upside down after crashing and the pilot was removed from the cockpit by first responders.

The victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

The cause of the crash is not yet known and remains under investigation.
