Spring-Ford Loses to Conestoga

Pioneers won their first PIAA state championship in 10 innings, 6-3.

The Spring-Ford High School baseball team’s dream season ended on Friday night when the Rams fell short in 10 innings, 6-3, against Conestoga in the PIAA class AAAA state championship game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College, Pa.

The Rams tied to game with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, but Conestoga scored three times in the top of the 10th to capture its first state championship in school history.

The game was the longest in PIAA tournament history. Regulation games for the high schools in the league are seven innings.

After two scoreless extra innings, Conestoga bats came alive in the top of the tenth as the Pioneers got three across to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the tenth. 

In the end, Conestoga outhit the hard-hitting Rams as the Pioneers got 6 runs, on 16 hits, stranding 12 on base for the game. The Rams scored 3 runs on 11 hits and left 15 on base. Each team had just one error in the hard-fought game.
