1st Day in Charlotte at the 2012 DNC National Convention

Highlights of travel to the DNC 2012 National Convention & 1st night festivities in Chaflotte, NC

It was a very long day to say the least. Left Limerick Township at 2am yesterday morning  and arrived in Charlotte, NC at 11:30am. Travelled the PA Turnpike to just west of Harrisburg and took Interstate 81S. No Tolls, and no traffic. Upon arrival, we checked in at the Hampton Inn & Suites - South Park, one of 3 Hotels designated for the Pennsylvania Delegation.

Met a number of delegates from our area who are also attending, and became acclimated with the general area. The actual convention is Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, however there are many events & receptions that are preceeding those three days, as I mentioned in my previous Blog. Last evening was the DNC hosted reception for PA, along with OH, DE, Il, & HI at the Mint Museum; a very contemporary Museum on the likes of the Guggenheim in NYC. Had some transporation problems, and hopefully they will be resolved by today.

The hotels for our delegation are approximately 20 minutes from the main events. Because of strict security, car transportation would be relatively prohibitive because of access and parking.

To start off attending the event, I was interviewed on camera by Rick Williams, Channel 6 ABC news anchor, and a clip was aired on last night's 11pm newscast. A tour of the Museum, along with meeting other delegates from PA, and the other states attending our venue. Refreshments were quite ample and sufficed for the evening.

After getting up at 1am, and not getting any sleep till almost 11pm, hasn't happened for me in a very long time :-). Up early this morning, having had breaakfast already. Will be getting new credentials for the day shortly, and will be attending Carolina Fest. It will be similar to a big Labor Day Bash, down on the Parkway in Philadelphia, but in a much more contained area. Will stop by the Convention Center, and try to attend a caucus meeting.

There are 2 receptions running from 5:30pm this evening, until 11pm. The 1st is being sponsored by the Cozen O'Connor Law firm in Philadelphia, and the 2nd being sponsored by the Pa State Committee for our delegation. Hope to meet many more people from our area who will be attending the convention.

Will report back soon, as time permits for a follow up on these events.

Frank S. Burstein, Delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention
