Collegeville Resident Creates Coupon App

In today’s technologically advanced society, shoppers can put away their scissors and newspaper circulars and instead opt to search for coupons on the internet and on their smart phones. Couponing has increased significantly in popularity since the premier of TLC’s hit TV show, “Extreme Couponing”, where average Americans spend dozens of hours each week clipping coupons to maximize their savings.

My sister (the iPhone guru) recently told me about a new coupon app for the iPhone and Android called “Couped Out”. Created by a Collegeville resident, this app allows smart phone users to choose from a variety of local businesses (such as The Trappe Tavern, The Towne Book Center & Cafe, and The Pub at Wegmans) and spin a virtual wheel for a chance to receive dozens of special offers and discounts from these vendors. The first time I used this app, I chose the Craze for Rayz tanning salon in Eagleville as the vendor, spun the virtual wheel, and-whoops- got “swing and a miss” (meaning that I did not win any special offers for this spin). But when I chose California Tortilla in Limerick as my next spin-“Celebrate!” popped up on my screen. I clicked next, and found that I received $1.00 off of my next purchase. I chose the “keep it” option, and this coupon will remain valid on my iPhone for the next ten days. So when I go to California Tortilla, I log in to my Couped Out app and click “redeem offer”, and a bar code shows up for the cashier to scan. You can only spin one time per day, per vendor, and the offers you win will remain valid for up to ten days.

And the best part of all? It’s a free app!

With dozens of local businesses already participating in this local phenomenon and even more vendors joining every day, this app is not only a fantastic way to get more bang for your buck, but also a way to support your local businesses.
