Harbingers of Summer

Every neighborhood has its little cues that summer is coming.  Patio furniture reappears on decks. The shouts of children playing outdoors multiply and filter through windows that were recently opened to change out the winter's stale air.

On the north end of Sunset Road in Limerick, where I live, there's a can't-miss sign of summer's approach that everyone in the neighborhood can see: Mr. Wensel's fountain, which came on today. I actually get excited when I see them rowing out to it in the little skiff. It will run all day, every day (and while backlit each evening) from now until sometime in October.
