A sign was recently posted at the tennis courts along Lewis Rd at the Spring-Ford Ninth Grade Center. The sign states, “This is to notify everyone that there will no longer be lights at the 9th GC tennis courts.” The lights on the tennis courts have been in use since 1982. No one notices this sign until a warm night this spring.
The lights have been maintained continuously by the administrations of Dr. William Welliever, Dr. Edwin Coyle, Dr. Genevieve Coale and Dr. Marsha R. Hurda for use by the community. It seems that present administration does not care as much about the community. The school board did not want to spend the $60,000 to replace the 20-year-old lights. At the October 17th school board work session board member Julie Mullin stated she would not approve $60,000 for lights that the students do not use. The Board could have used the money in the 2007-2008-bond issue to approve the lights but they chose not to do it.
I cannot believe the school district informed the public about the tennis court lights with a little sign on the tennis court fence. This is an administration that prides itself in their ability to communicate with the community. They have RCTV, the quarterly newsletter, the monthly board notes and their own communication firm (Communication Solutions) yet they chose to inform the community by that little sign.
