Spring-Ford Gets By A Game Vikings Squad 11-8

Spring-Ford downs Perkiomen Valley 11-8 in Boys PAC-10 Lacrosse Action

Spring-Ford has begun to get in good rhythm early on in games which was not the case in the early part of the season.  2nd half surges were the name of the game for the Rams as the season has progressed.  The reason for the need of those surges unfortunately has been the result of letting teams back in to games Spring-Ford had control in.  Last night was one of those nights.

Spring-Ford jumped out to a 3-0 lead in methodical fashion with Sophomore Zach Hare netting the first goal of a nice feed from Alex Marte, a fast break goal off a brilliant skip pass from Paul Major to Casey Pettine, and finally Hare getting his 2nd of the night.  Greg Bresnan came up big in the first quarter with 4 of his 10 saves on the night to send the game to preserve the 3-0 lead after the first quarter.

With Spring-Ford in clear control of the game at this point, PV would begin to find it's own rhythm as they went on a 4-0 run to take the lead 4-3.  The Vikings seemed to execute their game plan shooting from the wings to the far post and were feeling good.  Sean Tornetta and Kris Boyd garnering 2 goals each during the run.  Spring-Ford answered back on a dodge from behind by Major who was able to squeeze one by Bryce Womack that just crossed the line to the short side to tie that game at 4 going to halftime.

The decisive 3rd quarter turned out to be for the Rams as they dominated the score sheet outscoring PV 6-2.  It started with DJ Young ripping twine with a man-up goal. PV would bounce back and get one on the own from Ben Minardi to tie it back up.  Goals by Major and Pettine would push the lead to 7-5 before Shawn Dickey got on the board with his first of two with a laser from the top just under the cross bar.  Additional goals by Marte, Major, and Pettine built what turned out to be an insurmontable lead going into the 4th quarter 10-6.

In the 4th, the Vikings would get some good looks but a couple of key stops by Bresnan, kept PV at bay even though they got 2 goals late in the 4th.  Ronak Das closed out the scoring with his only goal on the night with about 4 minutes to play.

The Rams go to 8-1 in PAC-10 play (8-2 overall) while Perkiomen Valley falls to 6-3 in conference play (7-4 overall).  Spring-Ford will finish it's suspended game with OJR from Friday night at 7 PM at Coach McNelly Stadium with the Rams holding a tight 14-11 lead and the ball to start with 4:11 seconds left to play in the 4th quarter.  They travel to Methacton tomorrow afternoon to face a hot Warriors squad that is playing it's best lacrosse all season for a 3:45 PM start.  The Vikings next take on the Wildcats of Owen J. Roberts in what should be a great rematch of last weeks OJR 8-7 win.  Face-off at 7 PM at Owen J. Roberts High School.

The PAC-10 path should become clearer tonight with the finish of the Spring-Ford- Owen J. Roberts outcome as those two continue to battle for the top spot in the PAC-10 while Methacton and Perkiomen Valley have a pretty strong grip on the coveted last 2 spots to vie for the PAC-10 tournament.  Should Spring-Ford finish off tonights came, they would control their path to the top spot by winning out. A loss by OJR would drop them into the third seed as they would be tied with Methacton, who holds the head to head tiebreaker by virtue of their 10-9 OT upset win last week over OJR.  If OJR pulls off the rally tonight, they would be the clear cut top seed with Spring-Ford holding the 2nd seed.  A lot will be determined in the next 3 days of PAC-10 action.
