Spring-Ford gets knocked down by Avon Grove
Spring-Ford suffers 14-3 loss at the hands of Avon Grove in boys lacrosse.

After the season opener, Coach Donnelly felt the team needed to clean their act up despite a blowout win. It turned out to be a look into the future of what could go wrong when you don't protect the ball. Spring-Ford traveled to non-conference foe, Avon Grove for a boys lacrosse game where they were thoroughly outplayed in a 14-3 loss.
The big debate in the lacrosse world this year has been what is more important, number of possessions or possession time. Last night did not settle anything as Avon Grove dominated both sides of that debate. Avon Grove face off specialist, Anthony Cardile owned the X going 13 for 19 on face offs giving the Red Devils a dominating number of possesions. Avon Grove used those possesions patiently in picking apart the defense for good looks and open shots of which they buried often.
Avon Grove offense was potent led by Beau Kush with 5 goals and 1 assist. Tanner Peck tallied 3 goals and Bryce Reid and Eric Russo adding 2 each. Matt King and Jake Pousson chipped in with 1 each.

Avon Grove opened the game with 2 long possessions in taking a 2-0 lead. On Spring-Ford's 2nd possesion, Troy Szostek ripped top corner with a 12 yard laser to cut the lead to 2-1. From there, Avon Grove took over on a 6-0 run that lasted in to the third quarter, while continuing to pour it on en route to their 14-3 victory. Avon Grove goalie, Will Schreiner, was on his game making 8 saves.
Spring-Ford's high powered offense was short circuited for much of the day. 2 goals by Troy Szostek and 1 man-up goal from DJ Young represented their only success on the day. Goalies Greg Bresnan 7 saves and Matt Messerle with 8 saves, tried to keep the game close with several point blank saves. In the end, not enough offensive possession time and too many opportunities for Avon Grove proved to be costly for the Rams.

Spring-Ford has little time to get over this one as they now must face fierce rival Owen J. Roberts on the road at 7 PM. OJR and Spring-Ford are the only two teams in the PAC-10 with conference Championships so these two squads like to get after each other for bragging rights. This year looks to be no different. Expect a wide open, high scoring game as both offenses can score in bunches. The game could well be decided by who has the ball last.
