Spring-Ford Runs By Boyertown in Boys Lacrosse

Spring-Ford scores early and often in their home opener beating Boyertown 17-6 in boys PAC-10 lacrosse action

The Spring-Ford Boys Lacrosse team (1-0 overall, 1-0 PAC-10) has been itching to get on the field for a real game for nearly a week since the PIAA opened up the regular season.  The offense wasted no time in getting on the board as they built a 3-0 lead less than 2 minutes into the game.  They never looked back from there.

Senior and reigning PAC-10 player of the year, Paul Major (Delaware commit), picked up right where he left off by pouring in 7 goals on the day and adding 2 assists.  Senior Casey Pettine added 4 goals and 1 assist.  Other goal scorers included Senior DJ Young (Hartford commit) with 2 goals, Seniors Jack Haney (Quinnipiac commit), Ronak Das, and Steve Bock with 1 goal each and Junior Alex Marte with 1 goal and 2 assists.

After building a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, Boyertown began to fight their way back on big saves by Austin Mutter and goals by Tyler Fuhrman and Brock Johnson to remain within striking distance at the half down 8-3.  Mutter was outstanding on the day making several ridiculous one on one saves totaling 15 for the game.

However, in the third, the Rams went on a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach in extending their lead to 15-5 at the end of the third.  Freshman Matt Della Croce making his varsity debut at the face-off X was an astounding 20 out of 26 on face off wins.

Spring-Ford's defense led by Senior Ian Hare (Towson commit) and Junior goalies Matt Messerle and Greg Bresnan who combined on 11 saves, kept Boyertown on the perimeter for much of the day while making it difficult for the Bears to settle in to their offensive sets.

While Coach Donnelly was happy for the victory, he saw room for lots of improvement in executing their offensive and defensive sets while being more protective of the ball as many balls ended up on the ground from unforced errors. Fortunately for the Rams, they won the ground ball battle too.

Spring-Ford next plays on the road at long time, out-of-conference foe, Avon Grove on Tuesday.  They return to PAC-10 action on Wednesday night against their fierce rival at Owen J. Roberts at 7 PM.
