The 3rd Annual Canine Cancer Research USA Walk and Why it is Important to Me
Take a bite out of canine cancer!

Cancer is an important issue in my life. I am a 14 year survivor. I have lost friends and family to cancer. I have friends and family continuing to fight for their lives. In July, I lost my 13 year old Newfoundland, Molly, to cancer. Three days ago, I found out my 8 year old Newfoundland, Tucker, also has cancer.
I took him into my vet last Friday thinking he had a cold or an ear infection. It turned into him maybe having an obstruction of some sort in his stomach. By Saturday morning, I was rushing him down to the University of Pennsylvania Veterninary Hospital in Philadelphia. He went down hill quickly. By Saturday afternoon, they were throwing around the word "cancer" and by Monday morning, we had a diagnosis of Lymphoma. Here was my beautiful boy, who just days before was running around the yard with the other dogs, close to death. He wasn't in pain, which was a huge concern for me. I did NOT want him to suffer for my own selfish reasons of not wanting to lose him. With much discussion, online research and consideration, I decided to give chemo a shot. I was told, if it was going to work, he would respond almost immediately. Well, he did! I was amazed at the difference from one day to the next. I was able to bring him home last night. While I am thrilled to have him home with me, it is also bitter sweet. I know this is the beginning of the end. We will treat him for as long as he is feeling good and eating and enjoying his life. Once I know he is fading, I will make the choice to let him go. The thought of that breaks my heart and that is why canine cancer research is important to me.
This Sunday, September 25th, is the 3rd Annual Canine Cancer Awareness Walk. It will take place from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Neshaminy State Park, 3401 State Road, Bensalem, PA 19020. I hope to see some of you there!
