To help there, somewhere

Just imagine what it would be like to be a Veteran coming home to uncertainty as great as when you were serving in a foreign land. It's time for us to help!

If you heard news that someone someplace just got robbed and hurt, would you care for a minute? In that moment would you want to help? Maybe upon hearing this you’d think, someone should do something. But you may not yourself, because it didn’t happen to you, or even in your neighborhood.

Let me ask more questions….

When you woke up this morning, did you wake up not knowing where you are? Did you wake up with the memory of night sweats and bad dreams? Did you wake up homeless? And will you spend your day disillusioned, disenchanted? Have you spent years of your life trying to come to terms, wishing forgiveness for what you had to do for God, country, and the protection of the people of these United States?

Chances are you did not!

This is what happens to your Veterans of war every day! You see, some of us were sent to a foreign land to serve this nation and protect its people. Some of us didn’t come back. Some of us came back with pieces missing that you can see. And some of us came back with pieces missing that you cannot see. All of whom are in need.

Stand up now, it’s time to abolish the saying, "Better them than me". And start now with saying, "Better me to help there, somewhere". If we do nothing, these heroes will sit very still, wasting away. Never having a reason to smile, and staring a thousand yards to nowhere.

It’s time to step forward and say, "I am here to help you now, my hero, my friend". Time to "CARE ABOUT", your fellow person. Time to "SHARE ABOUT", with the things you can. And do this with "LOVE THROUGHOUT". The Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service and Educational Center (PVMSEC.org) does. Every Day!

They take in honorably discharged veterans and "help there, somewhere". From the basics of having a place for personal grooming, to helping them with education for employment, assisting with the tough laws of their well- deserved G.I. bill, to finding a place to live, and helping with furniture and groceries. All things we take for granted.

When my wife and I went to the center to talk about how we want to help with the book, Mr. Stinkas and the Little Cheese Shop, (MrStinkas.com) we met the most wonderful people. We brought two dozen doughnuts for the meeting. And I was taken back at how their first thoughts were to get the doughnuts to the perimeter. (The cafeteria where the veterans have a meal.) To have the presence of mind to bring a moment of joy to ones who have very little. The people who work there are a better class of people. Something we all should strive to be.

Why am I helping?

Because ever since I heard of this place through the John DeBella radio show on WMGK, I was determined to be a life-long supporter. Did you know this facility survives on grants and donations only? My children’s book, Mr. Stinkas and The Little Cheese Shop, offers fifty cents to them for each book sold. Now that may not sound like a lot, but with fifty cents each book sold, at a goal of three million copies, that would mean PVMSEC, would receive a total of 1.5 million dollars. As long as this book is in print, they will continue to receive benefits, even beyond the goal of three million. So, if you never thought to donate to them, but you might buy a book for a deserving child, buy the book and I will take care of the donation.

I am one man with a wishful prayer. That we all wake up with a bigger heart tomorrow, to "HELP THERE SOMEWHERE".

If we all did this, just imagine how tomorrow would be? Just imagine how your neighborhood would be? Just imagine what your town or city would be? If we all did this, just imagine, we might then truly be a United States.
