Turning 50!

It's all in how you look at it...

Last week my husband Kevin was being funny and told me I got a birthday present in the mail. I flipped through the envelopes and found it! My official AARP card! Yay! He had even drawn a crude smiley face on the envelope to make it more festive. (Isn’t he sweet?)

Yes, today I turned 50! Half a century. Five decades. Over the hill. I’ve heard it all. But you know what? It is also 50 years less than 100. Thirty years wiser than a 20 year old. And only about 20 years away from retirement. It’s all in your perspective (smile)

You can call me a lot of things, but negative probably wouldn’t be one of them. I am alive and well. I am married to a wonderful man who still insists on opening doors for me and carrying all the groceries. I have six wonderful children and a wonderful step daughter. We have a beautiful home that I decorate for every holiday known to man. Kevin says I have curtains for every occasion. (But that’s another story)

To me, 50 is a brand new start! When I was 20, the world was full of possibilities. Then everything “possible” happened. Marriage, children, work. But now, I look ahead and once more see tons of possibilities! My children are becoming adults and young adults. I have a new career. I am blessed. What’s there to be upset about?

Fifty should be celebrated! Not mourned! It is not a death sentence. It’s a new chapter! The book isn’t over yet! I can’t wait to see what’s in the future….But for now, I’m ready to take a very long, deep breath and blow out that small fire that’s burning on my cake  :)
