Who Let the Food Out?!

Something's funny in the kitchen.

At the Spring-Ford School Board meeting on January 23rd, the board voted to conduct an audit of the Food Services department. The audit will be conducted by Maillie, Falconero & Company at a cost of $5,000. Board member Mark Denhert objected to the cost of the audit and its benefit. During the course of the conversation Board President Tom DiBello stated there is concern that there might be instances where “merchandise was disposed of out the back door.” Mark Denhert questioned whether Mr. DiBello meant stolen when he says “disposed of out the back door.” Mr. Dibello said he did not use the word stolen he just said, “disposed of out the back door.”

My question is: What is missing? Who took it? And what is the loss to the district? Unless the auditing company has a time machine, this cannot be accomplished. Hiring Mallie Falconero to do the audit is probably a mistake. Mallie Falconero is the district independent auditor and they just completed that audit. On page 73 of that audit, the audit of the food service fund appears. It looks to me that Mallie Falconero is not going to find much else. Dr. Goodin states that this audit will be more like a forensic audit. For $5,000 this will be nowhere close to a forensic audit which is very, very technical in nature and normally used to uncover wrongdoing.
