LIMERICK — Eating healthy foods was the informative message fourth-grade students received Jan. 3 during a presentation from a nutrition specialist, who taught them that whole grain foods were a key part of a well-balanced diet.

“The Whole Grain Truth” is a program brought to local classrooms by Bryn Mawr and Paoli Hospital’s Community Health Services that stresses why it is essential to eat specific foods and how introducing whole grains into a diet can promote healthy living.

During the presentation, Health Services Nutrition Specialist Gretchen Skwer encouraged students to become detectives when it comes to their food choices by teaching them how to spot different whole grain products and read labels to determine real whole grains brands from ones claiming to have the ingredient.

“This program gave students the opportunity to learn what kinds of foods are available and discover different ways to lead a healthier lifestyle,” Evans Elementary School Nurse Laura McNeil said.
