Roads around the neighborhood were closed, and power was shut off for some residents for hours into Thursday. Most roads had reopened by late Thursday morning, and officials said they were working to restore the power. High winds also made it difficult to restore power in some cases.
The Red Cross helped shelter the victims, who have all now found temporary housing. For hours, victims and those without power were in a warming shelter and charging station on Green Street. The shelter remained open through late Thursday morning.
"Thank you so much to everyone who is reaching out to find out how they can help the families who have been affected by the fire tonight on 2nd Ave," Mayor Alex Metricarti said Wednesday night. "Tomorrow, the work to determine next steps and assist the families will begin. Please check back for information on how you can help."
