GALLERY: Sox Fall to Northampton, Out of Tournament
Spring City was unable to recover from Wednesday's game against the Northampton Bombers.
The Spring City Red Sox took on the Northampton Bombers Wednesday at Ram Stadium at 11 a.m. Both teams were playing hard for their spot against Conestoga in the finals, but the Bombers came out victorious, 14-4.
The Red Sox were up to bat first in the top of the first inning, and Andy Lovre-Smith was able to hit a single and bring David Gulati home for the first and only run for Spring City in the inning. Northampton was able to score three runs in the first due most in part to shortstop Matt Mindeese's triple, which brought home Tyler Cillender and Jake Nevin. Mindeese was brought home next by a Shane Coleman single.
The second inning was almost identical to the first with Spring City scoring only one run and Northampton scoring three. Spring City stepped it up a little bit in the third with two runs and only allowing Northampton to score one. Those two Red Sox runs would be their last of the game and the tournament.

In the fourth inning, Northampton pitcher Will Faccenda allowed no runs and the Bombers went on to score four runs in the bottom half.
The bottom of the fifth is where it all came to an end. Pitcher Matt Yost allowed one bases-loaded walk and when new pitcher Mark Breitenbach came in, he also allowed a bases loaded walk.

Jake Nevin then stepped up to bat and brought the final Bomber player over home plate, as the 10-run rule came into effect.
"Coming out of the losers' bracket, these guys battled really well," said head coach Michael Gancasz. "Not getting the opportunity to go to states really stinks, but unfortunately again I think we beat ourselves. We gave up 12 walks today and they got timely hitting. We couldn’t stop the bleeding anywhere. Throughout the year, including this game, our guys have played hard and really wanted it and I couldn’t be more proud of the 18 guys that are in the program."
Northampton went on to play Conestoga later in the day on Wednesday and won, 7-4.
