The Spring City Red Sox advanced to the American Legion Semifinals after a win against Conestoga last night.

Despite losing the first game and being placed in the losers' bracket, the Spring City Red Sox have given it all they have throughout the losers' bracket series.

Tuesday night's game was at Ram Stadium against Conestoga. Conestoga already has a spot in the Championship game due to an earlier win in the tournament, but by winning this game Spring City got a chance in the semifinals against Northhampton today at 11 a.m.

Throughout the first inning, Conestoga's only run was scored by Tommy Richter, and Spring City's only run was scored by David Gulati.

However, the second inning definitely belonged to Spring City. Pitcher Chris Butera allowed no runs through five batters, giving the Sox the chance to get up to bat and score three runs almost immediately. Gulati had a huge impact in the second inning with a triple, which brought Tate Carter and Brett Carr home. When Conestoga threw the ball as Gulati slid into third, the ball was overthrown and Gulati attempted to get to home, but was held up by Conestoga's third baseman.

Head coach Mike Gancasz immediately took to the field, claiming interference, and after some negotiation, Gulati made his way to home plate.

Conestoga tied the game at fours in the top of the third inning, but Spring City took the lead once again in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs scored. Corey Rantz sent the ball flying into the back of left field for an inside the park home run, also bringing home Billy Conroy and Brian Cass.

Conestoga scored no additional runs in the fourth inning, with Spring City scoring two more. Conestoga was able to score one more run in the top of the fifth, but Spring City kept up with Conestoga's scores by scoring one more run at the bottom of the sixth.

The score was 10-5 going in to the top of the seventh, with Conestoga up to bat. Spring City's Connor Klemann took the mound, who went three up and three down to end the game.

Even though Conestoga has their secured spot in the championship already, the loss was still hard according to head coach Tom Graham.

"This is our third loss of the year," said Graham. "We didn’t play particularly well. We left around 11 or 12 runners on base, didn’t come through with the big hits. They played well. We just made a few too many errors. We’re in the finals, though, and that’s what we are shooting for."

Gancasz was very proud of the way his team stepped up both offensively and defensively.

"We got guys stepping up in the team," said Gancasz. "As far as tomorrow, we are back with Northhampton again, and I think they are going to be, or hope they’re going to be, a little tired from playing two games today. We will get another win and face Conestoga in the championship."
