GALLERY: Spring City Defeats JP Mascaro in Elimination Game
The Chester County American Legion Baseball tournament is underway and Spring City is still in it after a 6-3 win on Sunday.
Playing at Ram Stadium at Spring-Ford High School, local teams Spring City and JP Mascaro (MONTCO) battled through rain delays and extreme heat on Sunday. Both teams lost on Saturday, setting themselves up to match against each other in the losers' bracket.
The second inning proved to be a little more exciting than the first. The game was scoreless until Spring City brought in a run at the bottom half. Second batter Michael Fuhrmeister slammed a double, which was followed by another double hit by Corey Ranty. That hit brought Fuhrmeister home.
Scoring the second run for Spring City at the bottom of the third inning was Cameron Summons, who was brought home by a single hit by Andy Loure-Smith. Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but that all changed in the innings to come.

A rain delay held the game off at least an hour at the beginning of the fifth inning.
"At this point obviously with a 2-0 lead, we’re playing well defensively," said Spring City head coach Mike Gancasz. "It’s just a matter of getting some insurance runs in the next few innings. We got a new pitcher because of the rain delay, and hopefully we can shut them out."

MONTCO head coach Chuck Eppolito had nothing but great things to say about his team.
"We’ve got a good bunch of kids here and they’re resilient kids," said Eppolito. "We’ve been a little slow here with the bat for the last two days but other than that we got good athletes here. We’ve got good coaches and I’m really looking to these kids to do a good job."
Volunteers, staff and parents worked diligently for almost an hour to get the field back in shape after a 20 minute downpour that left the infield flooded with water.
By the bottom of the fifth inning, Spring City had scored three more runs, while MONTCO was left scoreless, making the score 5-0.
MONTCO was finally able to make its mark by the top of the sixth inning, and brought in two more runs by the top of the seventh inning.
Even though MONTCO battled to the end, they were not victorious against Spring City in the 6-3 loss. Spring City will go on to play Beech Creek today in Game 9 at 1:00 p.m., also at Ram Stadium.
