Girls BBall Also Striving for PAC-10 Title

A look at the season to come for girls basketball with head coach Jeff Rinehimer.

The girls basketball team finished its season very much like the boys squad in 2010-11: a solid winning record, but a loss in the PAC-10 Championship.

The girls finished 20-5 on the season, losing to the Boyertown Bears in multiple overtimes in the PAC-10 Championship game. They also won a district playoffs game, but lost the next two to be eliminated.

Coming into 2011-12, the girls lost two key players to graduation in Meagan Yates, who now plays soccer at the collegiate level [Philadelphia University], and Chelsea Davis.

This year, the girls pick up a new player in senior Jaida Burgess, who comes from Idaho. They also return key leaders in Nikki Lynch and Mariah Traywick. A core group of juniors return as well to make for a seasoned team with high hopes.

"We have an experienced team in the junior and senior level," said 18th-year head coach Jeff Rinehimer, who also teaches history at the Ninth Grade Center. "We also have some sophomores that played last year. The freshman are just getting their feet adjusted. So, we'll see."

The Rams won't have it easy this year. They play the normal PAC-10 rival teams, seeing Boyertown, Methacton, Owen J. Roberts and Perkiomen Valley twice. However, the non-league matchups are also interesting, especially Upper Dublin, Cardinal O'Hara, Mount Saint Joseph's and a tough Hazelton Tournament.

According to Rinehimer, the team is healthy and ready to go. The season starts on Friday ... Rinehimer said the main goal is to continue down the path to success.

"After 20-5, we want to make sure we keep on improving," he concluded. "We still want more out of the season. So that’s our expectation - to improve upon last year."
