Healthy Mom=Healthy Kids

Corefit's Lose to Win Program, has lots of people losing lots of weight and that is tremendous! However, the lifestyle changes that our members are making affect not only them but their families. Here is one story from a member who finds she is a happier mom when she is a healthier mom! Here it is in Lisa's own words...

I am a part-time working mother who is married with four wonderful children. About 12 weeks ago I decided to join a Lose to Win program at Corefit that would put me on the road to optimal success and a healthy lifestyle change for me and my family’s future. In just 12 weeks this has left me with greater confidence, much more self worth, lots of energy, new friends, 25 pounds LESS and a happier mommy.

When I joined I anticipated the work out but I did not anticipate the healthy lifestyle change as I was guided to eat more protein and eliminate sugars. When Joymarie explained it to me I thought she was crazy and I immediately resisted against change and I thought to myself I am not going to do that! But on my drive home I contemplated it in my mind and I thought let me just give it a shot to see if it actually works and WOW I am so glad I did. One thing that stuck in my head was the team, Joymarie, Liz, Stacey and Carl said weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I was in shock because I always thought it was the other way around. The first week was a little hard but everything that is new is a little hard at first but I got results! I started to see the pounds and inches come off from the very first week and I had so much clarity. I thought to myself why I haven’t I done this before. I was on the road to a healthy lifestyle.

My family was very supportive of me and you know how hard it is to balance everything such as work, family, exercise, diet and activities but you have to make the time for yourself as well. I had some issues with letting others help because as moms we want to do everything, but in the end it all gets done one way or another.

My kids were very impressed with my dedication and trying to learn new healthy ways of cooking for my family. We don’t have pizza every Friday night anymore and you know what they are fine with that. We don’t do fast food once a week (sometimes 2) and they are fine with that too. I find the more they have of that the more they want it and the less they have the less they ask for it. They are learning about healthier options just as I am and they are asking lots of questions about calories and carbs. They are looking at food labels and asking questions. At the dinner table the other night we were talking about good fats vs. bad fats. They are resistant to some things just as I was but they are learning about healthier options and they are thinking more about the choices they make. It may not always be big changes but little ones like they actually asked me to buy more Almond Milk the other day and my six year old daughter said to me “Mom, when I grow up I want to go to workout at your gym too!” Talk about inspiration and instilling healthy values. They want to be there to support me when I run my very first 5k ever!

I am on a path to a much healthier me in 2014 which will lead to a much healthier family as well. I want to do better for my family and maybe one day we will all run a 5k together. I can’t wait for summer to be outside running around with my kids and not just sitting on the sidelines watching. Everyday we wake up and we have the choice to be healthy and active. Yes, sometimes it is hard but it is sooooo worth it and I truly believe that if I, yes I can do it YOU can too!!
