Large Riverfront Property In Royersford Purchased By Developer

The property on the Schuylkill River in Royersford will see new construction for both commercial and residential use.

ROYERSFORD, PA — A property on the Schuykill River in downtown Royersford has been purchased by developers who plan to construct buildings for both residential and commercial use, the borough announced Friday morning.

Riverfront at Royersford, LLC, which is owned by The Lewis Group, purchased the vacant portion of the lot at 1st Avenue and Main Street in a deal that was finalized last week, officials confirmed.

“This is a game changer for Royersford Borough,” said Richard Lewis, President of The Lewis Group.

The new construction will bring jobs and new residential life to the borough. It will also connect a walkway on the waterfront over an abandoned railroad trestle that will be restored. The new footpath will provide easier access from Royersford to the Schuylkill River Trail, just across the river in Spring City.

The first step in the development plan will be to clear the existing vacant lot to provide for "more scenic views of the river," officials said.

In describing the project, Lewis said that the process to acquire the site took more than seven years. He mentioned the existing development along the Royersford waterfront as part of the motivation to develop.

"Royersford is home to twelve successful enterprises ranging from aerospace engineering, environmental services, corporate sustainability, specialty alloy and other great employers. It is out intention to make the riverfront home for employers who want to offer their employees a great work environment, easy access to the highway, river and trail systems and access to great local shopping and dining."

The vacant property at 1st Avenue was previously owned by Buckwalter Stove and other industrial operations.

No specific timetable for the new construction has yet been determined.
