LIMERICK, PA — Unit 2 at the Limerick Generating Station was taken offline on Monday for maintenance, officials said.
The planned procedure will involve disassembling and repairing a water pump inside the plant's containment building, according to Exelon.
The reactor has to be taken offline in order to complete this work.

The plant has met all the safety and performance standards required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, per the most recent performance review in March.
Limerick's two nuclear Units combine to produce 2,345 net megawatts (MW) of electricity, which they say is enough energy to power more than two million average American homes.
