Limerick plant takes next step for license renewal

The NRC announced that the application has been accepted.

The Limerick nuclear power plant’s quest for a 20-year renewal of its operating licenses took the next step on Friday after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the application.

According to an NRC statement, “the staff has reviewed the license renewal application for the Limerick nuclear power plant to determine whether it contained the appropriate information – and of sufficient quality – to allow the agency to docket it and begin a formal evaluation of the proposal.”

The statement added that, “the application has passed that test,” and “this determination also means that the window has opened for anyone who would like to request a hearing on the application to do so. The window will be open for 60 days.”
