
LIMERICK, PA -- Limerick Township has announced that they have sworn in a new police chief.
Brian Skelton, formerly a lieutenant on the force, was sworn in as the new chief on Tuesday, February 16, police said.
Former Chief Bill Albany has been appointed to a position of Chief Emeritus as a series of changes sweep over the department.

“We are very proud to announce the appointment of Brian Skelton as the Chief of Police,” Limerick Police said on their Facebook page. “The support shown by the community has been overwhelming and very much appreciated.”
Albany, who was named chief in 2004, previously served for nearly three decades on the Lower Merion police force. He will help oversee the transition to Skelton. He plans on retiring in December.

“This (new position) requires that I relinquish some of the daily duties that I truly enjoy,” Albany said, addressing the people of the area. “Please accept my heartfelt appreciation for the support you have shown our police department, we are very blessed. I would also ask that you join me in congratulating Lt. Brian Skelton on his promotion to Chief of Police.”
Albany said that he started the Limerick Police Facebook page in 2012 and “never imagined” it would become as popular as it has. It currently boasts 5400 followers. Updating the page is one of the duties he will relinquish.
