Lynch, Rams field run away with the Suburban A title at Penn Relays

117th Penn Relays: Franklin Field, Philadelphia

Methacton may have handed the Spring-Ford ladies their first defeat of the season earlier in the week, but that did not dissuade the Rams from exacting their revenge on the grandest stage that the local track world knows: the 117th annual running of the Penn Relays.

After two weather delays due to Thursday's powerful storms, the Rams 4 x 400 relay team, led by an amazing leg by Nikki Lynch, blistered the field of 16 schools and were the only PAC-10 school to record a sub four-minute time in the process.

“Wow, that was pretty awesome,” said anchorwoman Amber Muhammad. “Seeing all of that in front of you [the throng of fans and flags] is intense. This was such a cool experience. I am very proud of what we did here.”

“Methacton may have beat us the other day,” added Lynch. “But beating them by like seven seconds here is pretty cool. This is such an amazing race to run in. The adrenaline just takes over once you are on the track.”

Earlier in the day, the ladies 4 x 100 team with Muhammad, Meagan Yates, Brandy Nice and Mikaila White finished fourth in their heat and 50th overall in a national field of more than 500 teams.

“The waiting through the rain was tough,” added Huhamed. “But it was definitely worth it. I will remember this forever.”
