ROYERSFORD, PA -- Royersford police are urging residents to be vigilant after a man posing as a water company employee robbed an elderly woman at her home.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon on Walnut Street, police said.

The worker was a white male who convinced the elderly woman to go into her basement and shut off the water, according to police.

The man removed cash and jewelry from the home while she was downstairs, police said.

The suspect had an identification card that the elderly woman believed was legitimate, authorities said.

He was described as being in his 20's, with a short, normal build, a blue collared shirt, and long dark pants, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Residents are urged to call police for any suspicious persons, and to warn senior neighbors and relatives not to let anyone in their homes.
