Teen Faces Homicide by Vehicle Charges After Montco Crash: DA

ICYMI: A Harleysville teenager was charged with homicide by vehicle in an Upper Providence crash that left a Phoenixville woman dead.

A Montgomery County teenager has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the September crash that left one woman dead, the District Attorney's Office announced Monday.

Kurt Kucharik, 19, of Harleysville, has also been charged with reckless endangerment and careless driving in the death of 57-year-old Catherine Boyle, of Phoenixville.

The incident occurred on Sept. 20 at around 6 a.m. on Route 113 near Paperbirch Drive in Upper Providence Township, officials said.

According to authorities, Kucharik was driving a Scion TC south on 113, while Boyle was driving a Hyundai Elantra north. As the two cars approached, Kucharik crossed over completely into the northbound lane and hit Boyle's car head-on, according to police.

Boyle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Kucharik was taken to Paoli Hospital for treatment of injuries to his face and leg, authorities said.

Boyle, a 1977 graduate of Methacton High School, was remembered for her compassion and for her love of animals, according to her obituary.

Kucharik was formally arraigned on Oct. 27 and then released on $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Nov. 10.

Upper Providence Police joined Montgomery County Detectives in the investigation.
