New Community Garden at Upper Providence Elementary

New community garden to educate Upper Providence Elementary students about healthy eating, benefit Royersford-based Project Outreach

The following release was submitted by Phil Ellingsworth Jr., representing the Spring-Ford Area School District:

ROYERSFORD — students and the Triskeles Foundation are partnering together to help bring an end to hunger and help educate students about healthy eating by creating community gardens outside the school at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30. The produce harvested from the five newly constructed gardens will be shared with Royersford-based community service organization Project Outreach.

The Triskeles Foundation began working with school officials in October to bring a community garden to Upper Providence Elementary that would be used, not only as a way to fight hunger, but to educate students on the importance of healthy eating and its significant benefits on their lives. The organization’s Food for All Program funded the project, and will work with the parents, students and volunteers to create, fill and plant five garden beds located behind the building. Students and parents will maintain and harvest the gardens, and provide 50 percent or more of the produce to Project Outreach, so that individuals and families in need will have fresh food.
