OJR Warns of Suspicious Man This Morning

A letter was sent home by the district after a shady occurrence in Spring City.

The following letter was sent via email to parents of Owen J. Roberts School District students on Wednesday:

As always, the safety and security of your children is our highest priority. For this reason, we feel it is important to share news about an event that occurred early this morning, Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at approximately 7 a.m.

A male driver described to be in his 50’s with a scruffy grey beard, brown hair, and receding hairline, slowed his older-model, dark green Saturn Hatchback in front of a female Owen J. Roberts Middle School student who was waiting for her bus at the bus stop near her home on Pughtown Road in Spring City. The male driver stared at the student for some time and then stopped in front of her. The student immediately returned to her home and reported the incident to her mother who contacted school officials and state police.

Occurrences such as this may serve as a reminder to take the time to review safety tips with your children concerning their interactions with strangers. Reinforce that your child should not comply with requests made by any unfamiliar person, such as help with directions or help with finding a lost pet. Emphasize that any suspicious event should be reported to an adult immediately. Above all, encourage your children to recognize, trust, and follow their instincts about people and situations.

Sincerely,
