Potassium Iodide For Nuclear Exposure To Be Distributed Near Limerick

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Potassium iodide pills will be dispensed by authorities in Chester County at a new location next month, part of the ongoing emergency preparedness efforts for residents living near the Limerick nuclear plant.

The KI tablets will be given away at Phoenixville Middle School on Aug. 13 from noon to 6 p.m.

Both households and businesses within a 10 mile radius of the plant in Limerick are eligible to receive the pills.

Officials said that potassium iodide can help protect the thyroid gland from the harmful effects of radioactive iodine that may be released during a nuclear accident.

There will also be a community and resources fair held at the middle school as well.
