Potassium Iodide Pills For Nuclear Exposure To Be Distributed In Upper Providence

UPPER PROVIDENCE, PA — A potassium iodide distribution event will be held in Upper Providence Township on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The nuclear exposure emergency preparedness event is one of four events organized by the Montgomery County Department of Health.

Officials say that potassium iodide can help protect the thyroid gland from the harmful effects of radioactive iodine that may be released during a nuclear accident.

Visit the meeting hall at the the Upper Providence Township Administration Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to receive free tablets.

Similar events are being held Thursday at the Pottstown Health Center, the Limerick Fire Station, and the Lower Pottsgrove Township Building.

All individuals who live or work within a 10 mile radius of the Limerick nuclear plant are eligible for the tablets.
