On August 20th 2015, Oliver “OC” Cannady, a 15 year resident of Limerick, was nominated by the Limerick Township Democratic Committee to run for Supervisor. Cannady will now appear on the ballot for the November General Election, replacing John Nelomes who withdrew earlier in the summer.

Cannady retired from a major property and casualty carrier after 34 years, and held various positions in sales, underwriting, operations, and claims, including management and leadership roles in claims, quality improvement, and special projects, during his career. He also holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology, studied applied physics at Harvard College, and is a Democratic Committeeperson in Limerick 1.

Cannady cited his desire to bring long-term planning and quality control improvement as among his priorities. “Limerick is a great community that deserves long range and thoughtful community development, with leaders who actively seek input from all residents.” said Cannady. “I’ll make that a priority.”

Cannady joins Patrick Morroney on the Democratic ticket for Supervisor. Morroney, a 21 year resident of Limerick, is a work planner for PECO Energy and serves as an active firefighter with the Linfield Fire Company and as a Volunteer Vessel Examiner for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Previously, Morroney served as Deputy Emergency Coordinator for Limerick Township. Both Morroney and Cannady are running on a platform of greater transparency in local government; holding the line on Township taxes, which have increased by 65% in the past 4 years; and ensuring responsible development that adequately meets the needs of existing residents.

The Limerick Democratic ticket will also include Coleen Brandt Painter, a 19 year resident of the Township, who is running for Township Auditor after a successful write-in campaign during the May primary election. Painter has been an ordained pastor and chaplain for over 30 years, and was among the first women to serve as a military chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve, and is married to former State Representative Mark Painter, Sr. She will face Tyler Neafcy, son of incumbent Republican Supervisor Thomas Neafcy, in November. Painter would be able to serve as an objective advocate, free from any familial conflicts of interests, for a culture of openness and transparency in Township government.

Christina Melton, a registered Republican running for Spring-Ford School Board in Region 3, also received the support of the Limerick Democratic Committee. Melton, a Spring-Ford parent and taxpayer, will face incumbent Mark Dehnert in the only contested Spring-Ford race this fall, and seeks to bring a fresh perspective to the School Board. Melton has highlighted issues including supporting a reduction in standardized testing; expanding school curriculum, extracurricular activites, and arts activities; and calling for a fair and equitable statewide school funding formula.
