Primrose School to Debut in Royersford

The educational child care center puts its first Pennsylvania location on the map right here in Royersford.

The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors heard a presentation from officials of The Primrose School on Tuesday night. The school has opted to obtain the property that rests on 259 Royersford Rd. They have not released information on a grand opening date yet.

The site that they are looking at has about 2.4 acres of land and is essentially vacant. Primrose would like to construct a 11,500 square foot building. The school runs programs for children aging six weeks to 12 years old. It will run services Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The township was concerned with the original layout of the building, which placed the front of the building in an awkward position. The front of the building now faces Royersford Road, but will sit back into the property to allow space for a 45-space parking lot. The lot will allow for 23 employee spaces, with the rest being used for parents to pick up and drop off their children. The back of the building faces the golf course behind it and the business does not plan to obstruct or interfere with the already existing fence at the back of the property.

Each drop off averages six to seven minutes and go from 6 - 9 a.m. on weekdays. Pick ups occur from 3 - 6 p.m.

The building itself will be a stone and stucco hybrid with a shingle style asphalt roof. Four outdoor play areas will sit on the sides of the building and are securely fenced in to ensure the safety of the children. Each play area will be separated by age group.

The property is already zoned as commercial and the school would like to put a sign on the building and near the front of the lot. Township supervisors joked about the possibility of using electric signs. There is a pending ordinance on allowing those signs to be used or not.

"I think your building is a vast improvement of what we see there now," said board chairman Tom J. Neafcy, Jr., with agreement from the rest of the board.

The property has been surveyed and approved. According to school representatives, Primrose schools exist in 15 states across the United States. There are currently 220 of them.
